Common Symptoms

  • Painless, Maroon Sore(s) on the Mouth, Genitals, Breasts, or Fingers, Lasting 1-5 Weeks

  • Rash Anywhere on the Body

  • Flu-like Symptoms

  • Swollen Lymph Nodes

  • Hair Loss

Symptoms may appear from three to twelve weeks after transmission. Sores may not be noticed or occur deep in the vagina. Symptoms may disappear although syphilis will not be cured and can still be transmitted.

How Is It Transmitted?
Oral, vaginal, or anal sex with someone with syphilis.

What May Happen If You Don't Get Treated

  • Risk of transmitting syphilis to sexual partners.

  • A pregnant mother with syphilis risks giving it to her child during childbirth.

  • Increased risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, and birth defects.

  • Heart disease, brain damage, blindness, death.


Treatable?

Yes. Syphilis can be cured with antibiotics.
