Common Symptoms

  • Itching, Especially After Bathing and Exercise

  • Rash on Armpits, Thighs, or Waist

  • Burrows on Hands

Symptoms usually appear five weeks after transmission. People who have had scabies before usually show symptoms sooner.

How Is It Transmitted?

Oral, vaginal, anal sex, or close physical contact with someone with scabies; contact with clothing, linen, or furniture which has scabies.

What May Happen If You Don't Get Treated

  • Risk of transmitting scabies to sexual partners and household members.

  • Symptoms will continue.

Treatable?
Yes. With medication, scabies can be cured. Itching may take longer to resolve even after treatment. Clothing and bed linens should be washed in hot water.
