Constitution of the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe

The purpose of the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe is to explore, share, and preserve the traditional art of Lion and Dragon dance, and to introduce friendly competition among neighboring university troupes. We harvest this goal by performing at local cultural events, participating in intercollegiate competitions, and forming Boston's first intercollegiate Lion Dance competition and conference.

  • I. Officers
    • A. President shall:
      1. Be the chief officer of the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe.
      2. Represent the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe in all relations with Brandeis University, community organizations, and participating colleges.
      3. Be responsible for seeing that all meetings are convened, chaired, and adjourned.
      4. Delegate all responsibilities to other officers.
    • B. Vice-President shall:
      1. Assume all responsibilities of the President when necessary.
      2. Advise members on matters of constitutionality, explain rules, order, and conduct for the proceedings of the Brandeis Lion Dance Team.
      3. Assume the position of publicity director when necessary.
      4. Represent the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe at performances and competitions in the President's absence.
    • C. Treasurer shall:
      1. Keep records of all financial transactions pertaining to the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe.
      2. Be responsible for all Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe funds and moneys.
      3. Be responsible for the collection of all Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe moneys.
      4. Be responsible for submitting the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe budget requisition to the Allocations Board.
      5. Be responsible for the records of locations of Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe equipment.
    • D. The Secretary shall:
      1. Keep full record of all the decisions and plans of the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe.
      2. Be responsible for the preparation of meeting agendas dealing with club activities, events, discussion, et aliud.
      3. Be responsible for the preparation and distribution of materials for publicity.
    • E. Officers:
      1. All policies, decisions, and activities shall be approved by the officers. All decisions can be vetoed by a majority vote of the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe members. When required, the President may make policy decisions without the advice from the officers - all such decisions shall be promulgated to the officers as soon as possible. Only current members have voting power.
  • II. Training Commitee(s)
    • A. Training Commitee shall:
      1. Organize the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe's teams for participation in intramural and intercollegiate competitions, and performances at cultural events by five divisions: Lion role, Monk role, Instruments, Repair, and Research.
      2. Establish practice sessions, obtain and maintain Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe owned equipment where necessary, and provide other necessary conditions.
  • III. Elections and Representation
    • A. The Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe's President, Co-President, Treasurer, and Secretary shall be elected by nomination and by a majority vote for each office by Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe members at the end of each Spring semester for a term beginning in the Fall semester.
    • B. The Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe Training Commitee shall be established at the discretion of members and officers of the Club with the knowledge that experience is vital to first three of the five positions.
    • C. All vacancies shall be filled immediately as established by the officers.
    • D. Membership: Membership to the Brandeis Lion Dance Troupe is open to all members of the Brandeis community regardless of sex, race, religion, sexual preference, class, age, nationality, physical ability, and personal taste.
