When facing the road, turn right and walk up the hill. The Brandeis entrance will be on your left. 1. I consider myself to be a
Carolingian, hold no office in any other
barony or shire that divides my loyalties as a champion of Carolingia,
and actively participate in Carolingian activities.
2. It is understood that I may have personal fealty to individuals and
to the crowns of the East in addition to my loyalties to Carolingia, and
that I will resolve any potential conflicts of these fealties in a way
consistent with my personal honor.
3. During my term I have the duty to defend and serve the Baron and the
Barony of Carolingia, which I will do to the best of my ability.
4. I will make every effort to attend Carolingian court and to represent
Carolingia on state occasions. I will try to participate in as many
Carolingian Events as possible.
5. I will fight for the glory and honor of Carolingia whenever possible
and will serve Carolingia against her foes in times of war.
6. I will strive to be an example of courtesy and chivalry, bringing
honor to Carolingia through my actions on the field and my behavior
towards others both on and off the field.
7. It is my duty to organize the format of the competition for my
replacement, and to ensure that it takes place about one year after my
selection.
8. I will bear the trust of Carolingia, and any champions regalia with
pride, and will conclude my service well.

There will be the Baronial Fencing Championship
tourney at May Day in
honor of the Baron of Carolingia.
Be it known, this May day that a champion will be chosen for many
qualities that a courtier must possess. I ask that the lords and ladies
assembled look into each courtier's heart, see the skill displayed on
the field, measure the ability to be courteous, chivalrous and show
honor upon the field this day. Our Baron asks your counsel this
day by taking roses brought for the purpose and presenting them to the
courtier that you feel exemplifies these qualities, so that he may chose
a worthy champion.
The tournament will consist of several rounds of fencing that will show
off the attributes that are desirable for a champion. All combatants
are welcome, however, only those who qualify for the post of Carolingian
Champion will be allowed to compete for the vaunted title. The
qualifications have been posted to the carolingia fencing list and will
be available on the day of the event. Suffice it to say that all
gentles will, in the tradition of Carolingia, fence until they cannot
fence anymore.
The Baron wishes to be a patron of the arts, and
so will select a court
artisan. It will work in the following manner. Those wishing to be
considered for patronage should display some work of theirs, and provide
suitable documentation about it so it can be fully appreciated. Along with
this, they should provide a proposal for a project that they wish to
accomplish in the coming year. This project should bring artistic glory to
the barony in some way. One way would be to make gifts for the Their
Majesties' war chest, but there are other ways, such a publishing some
written work that extends the knowledge of the known world. The selected
artisan will receive encouragement and a small stipend raised from private
donations to help defray materials costs. They will join the Baron's
entourage and carry a special token. The Baron will make the selection,
assisted by learned advisors. The populace is also encouraged to observe the
new custom of the East, which is to leave personal tokens on those works
that move or inspire them.
